FUTUREHOUSE THERMAPANEL

To create a fully insulated building it is advisable to start from the ground floor with Futurehouse Thermapanel and continue in wall and roof to create a fully insulated  ‘igloo’.

The Futurehouse Thermapanel system is 40mm thick x 1200 x 1000mm High Density expanded polystyrene (EPS) sheets with tongue and grooved edges that are optionally glued together with a water based EPS adhesive – Styroglue, to create a continuous thermal and moisture barrier.

Construction Method*

Please note, construction method is for guidance only, full construction details should be obtained from Futurehouse prior to construction and all plans should be approved and verified according to national building standards and local council requirements.

Under concrete ground floor slabs

  • Step 1: Compact soil between foundation walls

  • Step 2: Apply Styroglue to EPS sheet edges, wait 15 minutes, join them and lay on compacted soil.

  • Step 3: Cut sheets with a sharp knife to tight fit between foundation walls.

  • Step 4: At wall joins run DPC from wall under the EPS sheets to prevent moisture penetration.

  • Step 5: Place electrical conduit onto EPS sheets.

  • Step 6: Pour and level concrete floor.

In brick wall cavities

  • Step 1: Start brick wall with a 50mm wide cavity. When the wall  is 2 to 3 bricks high wedge the EPS sheets in place.  As the wall progresses glue the EPS sheets together with Styroglue.

  • Step 2: Continue to build the brick walls using wire ties, as recommended by the suppliers, to hold the two brick skins together, pushing the ties through the EPS sheets. Plug the holes created with Styroglue.

  • Step 3: Cut the EPS sheets with a sharp knife to fit around doors and windows.

In roof

  • Step1:  Measure gap between rafters and cut sheets to tight fit between the rafters

  • Step2: Place the sheets above the ceiling board between the rafters but do not glue them together in case they need to be removed at some future point.

Thermapanel benefits:

  • Lightweight and easy to install

  • Highly effective and low cost method of insulation.

  • Can be supplied in thicker sheets if higher levels of thermal insulation are required.

  • Sheets can be glued together with Futurehouse Styroglue to improve the effectiveness against water penetration.
